Choose ISOTHERM For A Comprehensive Insulation Solution

ISOTHERM, proudly manufactured by Brits Nonwoven at all its sites in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, is South Africa’s leading thermal insulation product suitable for application in roofs, cavity walls, and around hot water cylinders.

ISOTHERM is available nationwide at all hardware and building product retailers, as well as all major ceiling and partition product wholesalers.

Brits Nonwoven is continually leading the pack in the push for innovative products made from recycled raw materials. Being made from recycled raw materials and being recyclable itself, ISOTHERM is a prime example of a product embracing the spirit of the circular economy. In addition, it is a significant contributor to achieving energy efficiency in buildings.

Go Green With ISOTHERM

Insulating your home is not only cost-effective but also reduces your carbon footprint. And when you choose ISOTHERM as your partner in thermal insulation solutions, you’re doing even more to reduce your environmental impact.

ISOTHERM is not only 100% recyclable; it’s also made from 100% recycled PET plastic bottles. On average, we use 90 tons of recycled plastic fiber per month, which equates to around 2.7 million PET bottles per month and over 30 million per year!

When manufacturing ISOTHERM, using PET waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill or endanger marine life by being dumped in the ocean reduces not only plastic waste in general but also the carbon footprint of everyone who uses it.

We’re making South Africa a greener place, one house at a time.

By making ISOTHERM thermal insulation maintenance-free, non-toxic, and non-irritant, Brits Nonwoven and ISOTHERM are making sure that every South African can access the thermal insulation that they need. Our commitment to innovation has seen us bring a number of firsts to the South African insulation market, and we have emerged as one of the nation’s primary choices in high-quality thermal insulation. Introduced to the local market in 1998, ISOTHERM is one of South Africa’s greenest and most convenient thermal insulation solutions.

Accreditations & Associations

Brits Nonwoven is a fully accredited member of the Thermal Insulation Products & Systems Association SA (TIPSASA), and ISOTHERM Thermal Insulation is Agrément South Africa certified. Furthermore, ISOTHERM passes all criteria covered by SANS 1381.

All Brits Nonwoven facilities are ISO 9001:2015 quality system certified and are in the process of officially obtaining the ISO 14001:2015 environmental system accreditation.

ISOTHERM thermal insulation has two main benefits – it helps maintain a comfortable indoor temperature and, in doing so, helps save electricity by reducing the need for energy-intensive heating or cooling. Thermal Insulation maintains a comfortable indoor climate all year round, keeping interiors warm in winter and cool in summer.

Reduces temperature by up to 7°C in hot weather
Reduces heating & cooling energy requirements by between 40% and 70%
Cost-effective:  ISOTHERM pays for itself by reducing the electricity costs of energy-consuming heating and cooling systems.
Maintenance-free: ISOTHERM is resistant to condensation and associated fungi and bacteria. It retains loft and will not collapse over time. ISOTHERM requires no refurbishment or maintenance.
Power-saving: Customers that have installed ISOTHERM in their walls and ceilings, and wrapped around their geysers and water pipes, save up to 21% of their monthly electricity bill.
Non-toxic:  Absolutely no PPE is needed to install ISOTHERM, making it the ideal insulating solution for home improvement
Non-irritant: ISOTHERM is non-allergenic and does not cause irritation
Easy to install: The soft texture of ISOTHERM makes it easy to roll out and cut to size; pleasant to the touch, ISOTHERM is simple and safe to install.
Eco-friendly: ISOTHERM is not only 100% recyclable, it is made from thermally bonded polyester that is produced from 100% recycled PET bottles

Fire performance – ISOTHERM complies with SANS 10400, the application of the national building regulations, as an insulation material.

Tested in accordance with SANS 428: fire performance classification B/B 1/2.ASTM – E 84:spread of flame: nil. BS 5803 part 4: does not smolder.

ISOTHERM is safe to handle and easy to install. Supplied in rolls of either 750mm or 1200mm wide, it is suitable for standard housing construction. Follow the basic steps for ceiling insulation below:

Measure accurately: Measure the distance between the roof beams or roof trusses and then select the correct roll of ISOTHERM.

Cut correctly: Trim ISOTHERM to size before entering the roof space. Simply tear or cut with a pair of industrial scissors or shears.

Stay safe: Do not walk on the ceiling boards. Walk on crossbeams, truss ties, or balancing boards.

Position correctly: Place ISOTHERM above and in close contact with the ceiling; ensure a snug fit between the roof beams and trusses.

Keep it neat and tidy: Carefully butt the ends of the rolls or overlap them to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Leave some space: Allow a 150mm gap around flue pipes, ceiling fans, and recessed lights.

Wrap it up: Wrap ISOTHERM around geysers and water pipes for further energy savings. Continue this installation process until the ceiling is completely insulated.

Keep air flowing: Do not block ventilation points with insulation to ensure that the airflow is maintained. This includes eaves gaps and air bricks at gable ends.

Use every piece: Do not waste off-cuts. Instead, use them to fill in gaps, crevices, and corners.

Avoid hot metal: Do not put ISOTHERM in direct contact with metal chimney fabrications or flues passing through the loft space.

Don’t cover: Ensure that a 12. Remember the hidden spaces: Do not forget to insulate under the geyser and above the trap door.

WHY GEYSER BLANKETS MATTER

Geysers are notorious for how expensive they are to heat. In fact, did you know that an average household spends between 45% and 60% of their monthly electricity bill supplying power to this one item?

Without an insulating blanket, your geyser will be constantly working to keep the water inside at a high temperature and using up more and more electricity in the process.

A practical and efficient solution to minimize thermal energy loss is by fitting ISOTHERM around geysers and pipes. Usually associated with the thermal insulation of roofs and walls, ISOTHERM is also a highly effective, simple-to-install geyser insulator.

With ISOTHERM keeping your geyser warm and snug, you can save up to 21% on your monthly electricity bill.

Tips for a greener geyser:

  • Keep your thermostat between 37 and 55°C.
  • Switch off your geyser before going away.
  • Shower rather than bath.
  • Ensure that all taps are properly closed; especially hot water taps.
  • Replace the geyser’s sacrificial anode on a frequent basis. Refer to the geyser manufacturer’s manual for how to do this.

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR ISOTHERM GEYSER BLANKET

Keep the cold out and the heat in with an ISOTHERM geyser blanket, by following these simple instructions:

  1. Measure accurately: Measure and cut with scissors to fit around the geyser with sufficient overlaps to accommodate end caps.
  2. Position and secure correctly: Ensure the geyser is completely covered with ISOTHERM and secure it with adhesive tape.
  3. Don’t forget the ends: Cut out two circles of ISOTHERM to be placed as end caps on the front and back of the geyser.
  4. Leave space for access: Do not secure the end caps with adhesive – this will hamper access to the thermostat and relief valve.
  5. Keep it neat: Tuck in end caps securely within overlaps.
  6. Now the pipes: Cut strips of ISOTHERM to wrap spirally around inlet and outlet pipes.
  7. Secure correctly: Secure with adhesive tape.
